An optical fibre carrying a 1444 nm micropulsed Nd:YAG beam is passed through a small puncture into the subcutaneous layer of the face or neck, where the wavelength is absorbed by fat and water. Unlike surface lasers this is an interstitial procedure performed under local anesthesia.
